Lately, I can't seem to stay awake long after I sit down on friends's couches.I start my evenings with every intent of socializing and having a good time. But just thinking about an old soggy couch with ripped cushions makes my eyes go heavy. The last few nights I have woken up in darkness with no sign of friends.....I am always alone. I wish my friends would wake me up instead of my dry contact-laden eyes refocusing, finding the time to be 3 even 7 in the morning, and then making the cold drive home in my frosty car. I am just getting to that age.

I have been shhhd
I have frequented the computer lab of the HLRC for over a year now and everyone knows the HLRC is a place of laughter, story telling, and loud conversations. Well, I was mistaken. I was told to lower my voice today. I demanded to know from whom this audacious complaint was coming. The employee/friend said he could not tell me.
I guess I will have to take my studying business somewhere else where.

Cold feet
1) I am 5'4 and convinced that boots would indeed make my legs look super weird.
2) I prefer slip on shoes.
3) I don't feel like I need to add to the already large boot population on campus.
4) Being told I have to have something makes be even more non-compliant.
5) Finally, I hate boots on me but not on everyone. I know many classy ladies with excellent boots( Hayface, Katie, Becca, and her cute little sis.)
After several bitter days at school I have finally broke down and will soon buckle up for what I am sure will be a bumpy and drawn out search for some winter shoery.
Yes, I intend to purchase some boots. Let me know if any of you have some suggestions on where I could find some boots.

Validated by Condi
The former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice's visit and address in BYU's weekly devotional created some controversy amongst many members of our assumed predominantly conservative student body. I drove by many bearded protester on my way to the Marriot Center. I found Rice's address validating. She made it a point to appeal to BYU's administrators by emphasizing her agreement with our foci on family and the philosophy that faith and reason are not conflicting ideas. Though many of my acquaintances found her speech "interesting but lacking", I thought her impressive. She was adamant on the importance of finding your passion and expanding your world. Obviously, Rice's words made me feel like studying Arabic maybe isn't such a crazy notion. I left feeling confident in my passion for the Middle East. Even though I don't know what I will do with my passion, i know that it is something that i want to do for the rest of my life. That is something.

Mmm Brinner
When the cold weather comes, I am always in the mood for breakfast for dinner. I also went out and bought some cocoa mix just for the mug Sarai gave me for Christmas. The owl keeps my beverages mighty hot.
Thanks, Sarai.

Viva Satire
I remember reading Twain's "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" when I was high school and thinking that Twain's book sure had some blatant racial slurs and political incorrectness running rampant throughout the text. I discovered the cleverness and literary usefulness of satire because of Twain. So, I was interested in reading that some one thought that Twain's satirical passages could use some sanitizing. A new edition of Twain's book has been published with some more pristine language in place of the sharp usage of the word 'nigger' 219 times. I am even more fascinated by the overwhelming backlash this new edition has brought about. People are crying out, "censorship!" This open debate warms the heart. Who doesn't enjoy witnessing true freedom? God bless satire and free speech.

frozen wasteland
Oh the joys of winter.
I returned home to find all the bathrooms in the house soaked in toilet water and frozen like an arctic igloo restroom.
My homey little motel was holding a room temperature of 41 when I entered the scene. How could this be? The heater had been completely turned off. My innocent roomie in her haste somehow did not realize that pipes and such things freeze without warmth. I can't be too harsh on her. She just did not know. Thusly, I am waiting for a plumber/ land lord to arrive and diagnose the situation. I so badly need to pee.
