A new camera for jOrdon

Above is the first picture my camera has ever taken.

I decided that getting a camera for Jordan would be a good idea. This Nikon CoolPix would be the first non disposable camera I have ever had. At the beginning of my search for the perfect camera, I consulted with my very knowledgeable camera man, Tyler. I asked him, "what would be the best camera to get for Jordan?", and he responded, "how much are you will to give to the Jordanian pick pockets?" I realize there is a high probability that my Coolpix could get hijacked but I am a risk taker. I will not let this camera out of my sight.

Hipsters and a little culture

Tonight Aly Jenkins called me to go check out this art exhibit downtown but then we saw that the shows ended at 9. It was 9:16. Luckily, I spotted this great little Indian/Pakistani shop called Bollywood. Not only did I find great hipsters shopping around in the market, I also found some great treats. The store was a small shop and I noticed that one of the sales ladies was following Aly and me around the store. She was the cutest lady! She is from Nepal and that is about all the personal info I got out of her. She led me to some great treats though. Some of the packages had Arabic writing on them so i read one package that said "Mango Kream." The sales lady pushed me to get some choco biscuits instead. What a cool lady and place. i need to go back soon and peruse their selection of Bollywood film!

Jordan A Go

I know it has been a really long time since I have blogged but here is the update.

This week has been really hectic but surprisingly productive. I finalized my flight intinery and will be flying out of Vegas May 9th. Amman, Jordan, here I come.
I cannot wait to get over to the Middle East and get to work. I am convinced that it will be the hardest but the greatest adventure ever.
I hear so many conflicting stories from people who have lived and visited the mystical region of the Middle East. Jordan is an interesting place because it is a country where ancient and modern come together. Amman is becoming more and more "westernized" but the people still identify with their traditional roots. As part of my internship I will be keeping journals and documenting all my experiences. So, keep an eye out for future posts. Internet access will be a little sketchy but i should be able to post once a week. Until then.......Ma' asalaama. (Bye)

I might suffer from kleptomania

As I was finishing up my shopping experience at Walmart, I reached into my pocket for my keys and I felt something unfamiliar. In my hand I see, two bottles of unwittingly stolen nail enamel. Big whoops. Luckily, I wasn't far from the store when I discovered the sinfully acquired bottles. I'm sure all would be proud to know that I stealthly crept back into the store and put the loot back on their proper shelves. I think I am getting to old for these types of mistakes.

Ol' frens, New friends.

A fresh new semester is already eating away at my soul. Classes are a little tough and I am feeling overwhelmed. Last semester was exciting and new! This semester is new but now there are familiar faces and warm greetings ( mostly in Arabic) in each class. I bumped into my Internship facilitator in one of my MESA( Middle East Studies Arabic) classes and it turns out I missed the first prep meeting! Whoops! No one told me. Bleh.

So, I am still trying to work things out but I think I have some frens to play with while me ol' pal Hayface estudie en Espana. Yes,things will be ok. I think. Right?

Dumpster Diving at my leisure

This morning started out like any other day except my roommate, Courtney, walked to school with me. In haste, I left the house without my keys and did not realize that until I was standing infront of my locked apartment hoping that one of my roommates was coming home soon. Luckily, Michelle, my other roommate, was at home. I probably should have looked for my keys then but I had some more pressing matters(making the best turkey sandwich ever!) to attend to. It did not occur to me till i had to be at a MESA meeting that I needed my keys. I could not find them anywhere. i tore my room to pieces looking for them but they were lost for good. Then I said a little prayer and I thought to look in the trash. Oh but I had just taken the trash out the nastiest apartment dumpster ever. So, There I am with the dumpster waiting for some guys to walk into their place before I dig into the dumpster of despair. It was actually quite easy finding my trash bag and my keys were in a wod of The NY Times' art and leisure section. In the end my keys are safe and have been wiped down with anti-bacteral cloths and my mind is at peace. Now i don't have to be fined for losing my key. Yaya. Oh and If Courtney ever reads this, It was not your fault. Your are the bast lil Mum ever.

Starving Sucker

So, I bought a Starving Student card and now I'm starving because I have no money to buy real food. I hate when salesman come to my door and are so persuasive with dumb products. The salesman really related to me by sharing that he was also a BYU student. He had my heartstrings at hello. It is even worse when this awful engaged boy/salesperson follows one to come back into one's room and looks at all one's dirty clothes while one buys their product online with their assistance. Hmmm I am a sucker.
